Department and School Assessment Plans

As a member of the curriculum committee, I am learning about accreditation requirements through ACEN who is our accrediting body. By learning about the ACEN criterion, I am better able to ensure my teaching plan aligns with the recommendations and standards set forth. This is turn will align and support the School of Health Science student initiatives. I love forward to learning more about level and house wide assessment plans.

Institutional Student Learning Outcomes (ISLO)

I volunteered to become an ISLO scorer because I didn't know anything about what an ISLO was, did, or why it was necessary. I wanted to learn more. I do remember learning about it during my master's program but that wasn't sufficient for me. This semester is my first experience scoring assignments and I enjoyed learning about other classes, their assignments, and their submissions. It made me want to be a better instructor and learn as much as I can about myself as an instructor.

Although not specific to nursing school, ISLO #3 is related to problem solving while using critical thinking and creativity which is a key element of becoming a nurse. Seems like a good fit to me.

Being an ISLO scorer will contribute to school and department assessment instructional plans by providing a landscape of student facing initiatives. It will definitely support me in curriculum improvement and development as well as aligning across programs. It is important to prevent the development of silos and to break down those that currently exist.
