Lab Coordinator -

8/2022 - 8/2024 I was hired as the Nursing Lab coordinator. The last time I was in that lab was as a nursing student in 1997. The sights, sounds, and even the smells haven't changed. It was definitely a blast from the past.

HS Lab Student Worker Role/Lab Rules

Lab #1, #2 (HS 221); Lab #3 (HS 217) Lab#4 (HS 122) Multi-media Center (MMC)

  1. QUALIFICATIONS

    1. Casper College student in good academic standing

  2. WAGES

    1. $12.00 per hour

    2. Time is entered by student, approved by lab coordinator

      1. Sign in for each shift in book in main lab (HS 221)

    LAB RESPONSIBILITIES -

    Student workers:

    1. Must attend orientation with lab coordinator prior to assuming responsibilities

    2. Work with students enrolled in NURS/CNA courses

    3. Open lab and Multimedia Center (MMC) in Saunders Health Science Center to be available for students during scheduled hours

    4. Work established hours, which may vary semester to semester and depending on others availability.

    5. Set up and takes down various lab supplies and materials as requested by faculty, clinical coordinator or CNA instructor

    6. Assist students with questions, concerns

    7. Arrange and maintain visual aides such as bulletin boards as requested

    8. Keep nursing labs and MMC clean and organized. Make sure all equipment is properly stocked and put away

    9. Maintain, inventory, and clean supplies and equipment.

    10. Perform other duties as requested

    11. Straighten the lab each day. Including, but not limited to:

1. Unoccupied beds in high position with rails down

2. Occupied beds in low position with side rails up

3. Cover mannequins

4. Return items to bedside table as needed

5. Straighten and organize linen

6. Put away clean laundry in all 4 labs

7. Place dirty linen in laundry bags

a) Linen bag colors:

(1) Purple - Nursing

(2) Green - Community

b) Do not send all linen out in purple. Departments are charged for linen washed according to colored bags

9. All equipment used must be cleaned

a) If dishwasher-safe, place items in dishwasher and leave a note for the lab coordinator. DO NOT RUN

10. Return all used items to the designated cabinets/space

11. Refer to one of the three red binders for cabinet supply lists and an alphabetical listing of all the items available to you in the upstairs lab.

12. Cabinet supply binders are located on the counter in #1 the supply room, #2 by the sink in lab 1, & #3 countertop in middle CNA supply room

13. Empty black trashes into large clear trash bins. Do not pull trash bags. Dump trash into large bin

14. Remove full sharps containers and replace with new

a) Full sharps containers are to be closed and placed in the supply room

15. Update availability or changes to schedule as needed

16. No minimum hours required. Will work no more than 19 hours per week

17. Work with other student workers to facilitate full coverage of lab hours

18. Turns off lights and locks doors at end of shift

19. Goggles will be required in the campus lab when there is a possibility

of exposure to blood or body fluids

20. Frequent use of gel and washing hands is required

21. Other duties as assigned.

LAB RULES

A. NO food in any lab

B. Covered drinks only

C. No children allowed in in any lab

D. Cell phones on silent/vibrate to minimize distractions
